What Skin Problems and Dermatoses May Occur?

Menopausal skin experiences a wide range of problems due to the reduced levels of oestrogen in the body. The drop in oestrogen levels in the female body has a major effect on the structure and function of the skin. In addition to the face, the rest of the body can be affected. Topical dermatocosmetics offer solution-oriented approaches to counteract these changes.

Confirmed: The Effects on the Skin

Up to 64% of women experience skin changes during the menopause:

Dry skin: The drop in oestrogen levels during the menopause can cause the skin to become drier and less elastic.

Loss of collagen: Oestrogen is also important for the production of collagen. When oestrogen levels drop, this can lead to a loss of collagen, which can cause wrinkles and sagging skin.

Changes in hair growth: During the menopause, hair growth can change as oestrogen levels fall. Some women may find that their hair becomes thinner or grows in unusual places, such as the face or hands.

Hot flushes: Hot flushes can also affect the skin, causing redness, itching and irritation.

Pigment changes: Some women may notice changes in skin pigmentation, such as darker patches or discolouration.
